I am hoping this guy is not overly stressed...heater went out during the night and was 80 last night and this morning down to 73....more of a drop then I would prefer. He is walking around the bottom of the tank ok but does appear to be huffing a little more then normal.

I have a backup heater that I keep and placed it in the tank and bringing the water back up slowly...set it to 76 and will see how he does...

But arggg...this is a rare fish and he is doing so good, if something like an equipment failure kills him :uzi:

Cool fish. In 2 ways temp and looks.

I have had power failures that dropped my tanks from 80 to 68 for as long as 6 days. I did loose all LPS but no SPS or fish or anything else. So hopefully your fish will survive.

Dont try to rush the temperature rise to quickly just steadily raise it.

How much did you pay for that fish? I have never seen one for sale.

Best of luck to you and your tank!!!

    Thanks....
It was actually supposed to have been a purple frilly rhino...that is what everybody thought it was.

Then I posted his pic on another forumn and a couple fish experts came on and said that in fact I had an ambron scorpion which is extremly rare, very deadly (not sure about that fact...found mix things..dont plan on getting stung) and never should have been removed from the ocean. Well sadly I thought he was another fish and I did have him and thought he was very cool. Everything I have found on the fish has been limited to scuba pictures etc because apparently this fish "has not entered the hobby world thankfully" according to many articles

I got a great deal on this fish...and even for rhino..I paid $135. I spend entirely too much money and time in this one particular store and the owner gave me a sweet deal on this guy.

He has changed so much since I got him...has shed his skin already. I have had him now for 3.5 weeks and he has doubled his size, so he was a baby...they can get 12-14" and I can see him doing that

    [IMG]his picture now

    [IMG]his picture when I got him...cool color change;D

He is a cool fish to watch, esp when he walks and eats. Reminds me of a dinosaur. He will get on his bottom fin, spread out his "wings" and throw his head back and do what I call a roar

I see you are in St. Louis....what parts, so am I!

I live in Granite City Illinois right across the river on the north side. Where are you at?

If he has doubled in size so quickly you may have a monster on your hands. How big is your tank? Do you have any other fish with him?

    I am in Florissant...very close ;D

Oh no...little piggie will eat anything that comes near him...he will even swim after them unlike many anglers that I have seen and kept. I have him in a small tank right now cause that is what I read works best at first for feeding. With such a small tank I am having to do 2x week water changes...luckily he is allowing snails and crabs in there! But from the little that I read and the people I have talked to, they all recommend that he stays in a small tank until he starts to grow more...so he can see the food better. Frequents tests, water changes...etc. Plus Prime is my friend! (havent had to use it yet...knock on wood)

I have 2 tanks that I will allow him to grow into...I have a 30g that I am hoping that he will be alright in..the experts that I have talked to said that would be big enough as they are not overly active, but then I also have a 55 g tank that can be set up if needed. The 30g is all ready to go..just waiting for my other tank to cycle and stabelize so I can move my mantis over to that ::)Told you I spent too much time and money

Considering scorpionfish are bottom dwellers, would it not reduce stress for the fish if you had some sort of substrate in your aquarium? Just a thought.

In fact, the reason he likely changed color was because he had no substrate to camouflage with. Probably a very stressful situation for your scorpionfish, and hardly cool at all.

PS: for future reference, its ambon, not ambron.
