So I just recently got engaged and I already have a 90 gallon set up, which she did help with somewhat. Even though I am new to it I am completely addicted to the hobby and hopefully if I work hard enough, when I retire I want to actually build a huge 1000+ gallon tank into one of the walls. dream big right? Anyways...I am already looking at what size tank I want to get next, since I'll be moving twice in the next the year and the second move will be a long stay, which is when i want the new tank. So of course now that I put the ring on her finger, my life ceases to be my own and we don't exactly agree on a bigger fishtank haha. I want a 250ish gallon tank...any body experienced with this type of hassle bargaining?

I find it pretty humorous. She does not.

You need to buy here something just as expensive as the fish tank so that when she gives you a hard time about spending all the money on the hobby - you simply point to here shiny necklace, earrings, Coach Bags, or something like that - make her feel even more important than the fish tanks and you will garner some favor.

If you find her points humorous, then she feels that you aren't respecting her point of view because you think you are 'right'. REALLY listen to her. Instead of thinking her viewpoint is funny, treat her with respect. Tell her how important a large tank is to you.

Now you're in a position to COMPROMISE. It's not about winning, it's about finding a compromise both of you can live with.

I guess I meant that I find it humorous that we get into semi arguments about when I talk about moving/ordering new fishtank stuff. I find the whole couples arguing over it, because one is REALLY into the hobby, pretty funny. I was actually discussing it with the guys at the LFS. Figured I put up a thread and see what everyone else's opinion on the matter is. She makes excellent points but I do end up seeing the humorous side of the matter at the wrong time.
