Tell her every frag costs $5 :).

Seriously though, I think it is about communication. Find out why she doesn't want you to have a bigger tank. If you know her reasons, you can help allay her fears and doubts. Or at the worst confirm them!

Very good advice. I think you need to truly understand what she objects too. In my case it was about spending to much time taking care of fish tank and looking at the fishes vs spending time with wife and my daughter. Only a compromise will help in this case. Getting wife herself interested in the tank and having her pick livestock to add can't hurt your chances.

If it's about money, then I do not think spending even more on your wife is a good plan. Perhaps discussing the budget and illustrating how you'll make sure it's not going to cost a ton a month and there will be funds for other activities and needs, is a far better way to do it.

And whatever you do, do not break your promises.

Just get her involved in alot of the decision making. fish, rock work, make her a part of the whole experience and hopefully she will enjoy it as much as you will. I know my wife didnt want to have anything to do with my tank, now she helps take care of it. AWESOME.

When I got engage, the next thing I know is that she wants a bigger ring. We then move in and bought a house I was tankless for around a yr. I now setup a 50 gal. We bought a house, a nice car... I don't think I could ever afford for a bigger tank.
