    Another good quick read.
Divers dismantle artificial tire reef - CNN.com
I actually saw this in Maui during a wreck dive where there was plenty of marine life everywhere except on the tires which had no coralline and also no coral at all. Great idea that just never paned out.

Wow, Can't believe they actually though that something like disposing rubber tires in our ocean would work! The chemicals associated with the tires, I think would have a reverse effect-which obviously, it did!
Oh well, live and learn I guess...In theory, it would have been nice to have a manmade reef-but ended up disturbing the area around it. That mistake, probably caused more problems than we know and over that long a time period!!! OUCH!

Well all the Data and expert study at the time they started the tire reef deal said it was great idea.. But the old common sense fishermen with no data and degrees all said all that would happen is they would hold fish and fish is all they have in and around them.. Oh well so much for Data and expert studies..

20 years ago in Adelaide South Australia, they put in a 1 mile stretch of artificial tyre reef.It has worked amazingly. You can't tell that they're tyres apart from the odd circlular shape here and there. It is completely colonised by the local creatures.Perhaps some work and some don't.

The Army Corp of Engineers dropped 30 - 40 old army tanks in the gulf of Mexico to create an artificial reef just outside Tampa Bay. I am not sure what type of reef they were hoping to accomplish but they housed alot of bait fish which attracted alot of red snapper, snook and yellow tails. It was definitely my favorite fishing spot when living down there.
