So after searching these forums and others, and not finding much info, I decided to mod my ASM G-1 and post it. This is the "mesh mod." Very simply removing the pins from the needle-wheel impeller, and replacing with a type of mesh. The original mod suggests 3M blue scrub pads...I found some but they didn't appear very safe for use (particles falling off etc). Then someone suggested "Gutter Guard." A thin black plastic mesh...sold at most hardware stores.

I've taken a picture of my skimmer before the mod...then I took some pictures of the new and hopefully improved impeller.

While taking the skimmer and pump apart, I decided I might as well do some heavy maintenance and totally scrubbed out the skimmer body and everything else...no more feather dusters...sorry =( I also had what looked like sponges beginning to form inside the body...anyhow, it's all clean now and new impeller in place. It IS MUCH LOUDER... but maybe I'll find a better way or get use to the sound...

When I see the results (new skimmate) I will post pictures...wish me luck!

Twice that amount of skimmate today! I'm so totally stoked with results so far. The skimmate was very wet, so I adjusted the output level just a hair...will see what happens
