    Anyone with experience with these? Do they require a constant sump level or are they self regulating?

    Yes, You will want to keep this at a constant level. I had one on a 50 breeder with 30 gallon sump and worked fine. Might want to look into the gate valve and recirc mod. Are you buying one? or have one?

    I am trading for one. Just wanted to know the particulars about it. I'm not quite there in the "constant level" reasoning yet, I am sure I'll be quick to find out once I throw one on. I'm not looking for an ATO, unless I do a small, 3-5G reservoir

    You will want to keep your water level around 7-9 inches for it to work the way it should. That would be your sump level.

    i think all skimmers have a certain water requirement
    asm sure is a good choice
