    Hello
I'm doing a report, is assisted suicide ok? Like a person on life support wants to die, is it ok to take them off life support?
What do you guys think on this matter?

Probably would depend on the situation. If our think about it, life support it like taking someone that's dying and making it a slower process, imo. Again it could depend on the situation though.

In certain situations I believe it is appropriate as long as it is done properly.

personally id prefer to have the option of requesting the plug being pulled. quality of life would be nothing . also the stress that it would put on a family. just my personal opinion.

Only if proper processes are followed. I give them a period of a few weeks to see if they are sure, and over that time they must have perodic visits from a counseler. at the end of the time period if they still are sure then allow it.

Life support and assisted suicide are two different things. Assisted suicide means the person is terminally ill and there is no cure. The person elects to end their life rather than go through a series of painful opporations or painful years of living. If your talking about life support, which means the person is not capable of making a decision, ie: brain damage from a car wreck or something then:

In bold, not only is it ok, but it is the law, as long as it is written in the person's last rights ie: a will or last testiment.

Usually a person on life support doesn't have to opportunity to say what they want, thats why they are on life support. If the person has completed their last will and testiment and they have stated they do not want to be on life support then that would trump what any of the family wants. The result would be the person taken off of life support. If the person on life support doesn't have their last wishes recorded then the next of kin would make the decision. That would be the wife/husband, parents, kids, sister/brother ect. Then, what they say will ultimately be done.

This was in the news like 6 or 7 years ago. A woman didn't express her last rights in her will. The husband wanted to stop life support, but the mother and father wanted to continue life support. Ultimately I think the husband won the court case and the woman was removed from life support.

If it is assissted suicide you are talking about then no, the courts have upheld that assissted suicide is immoral and against the law, except in the states of Oregon, Washington, and Montana. However, each of these states has laws that surround what a doctor can and cannot do.
