What, if anything, will keep an Asterina Starfish population in control? These little guys are growing in numbers at an alarming rate and physically removing them from the tank is the only way I know of to eliminate them. Any suggestions?

I believe a harlequin shrimp will get rid of them, but check my facts on that. Harlequin shrimps are awesome looking too so that's a bonus.

The only prob I have with that is my current inhabitants. Hawkfish, and two other shrimp, do you think they would get along. Any other candidates?

Some say they wont eat the smaller Asterina stars, but I have seen pictures on this site of them eating Asternia stars, so it seems some will. But that's all Harlequin's eat, so after the stars are gone you have to take it back, or buy stars to feed it.

Well theres quite a population now for it to eat. My bigger concern is how well the Harlequin would co-exist with my current residents.

I used to pull those stars off the glass when I saw them. How many do you have?

I don't know last night I removed 5 and counted at least 15 more so theres likely 100 or more it really starting to turn into an outbreak

I take them out by hand too. Some times they can get to outbreak proportions. But they seem to go in cycles. Some times there fine, then other times they explode in population. Just grab as many as you can.

I don't know about compatibility but a brittle star will eat them. I've watched mine take them right off the glass at night.
