Well, I was actually thinking of not adding any rock to the fuge, just a DSB and Chaeto. I will have a ton of rock in my DT, so I wasn't worried about the filtration in that regard.

Do you think I should change some out for LR? I've heard of people having problems with the LR catching detritus and it causing issues.

like I said..It is a personal preference. I have LR, Sand, Cheato, shrooms, snails..maybe a couple crabs..who really knows? :p...Go with what ya know..ime, you want a slow flow through the fuge....and you should be coming off the return line so its clean water feeding it...its a funky place if its operating correctly...i dont want to say what is the "right" way to create filtration in a fuge..but I would think the more things going on and the slower the flow..the better the results..jmo..and jme...matter of fact, I'm gonna put some mangroves in mine, just for the hell of it.. 8)
Great looking build..skys the limit with that design. ; )

Yea, I really just want to use it for growing pods/ slight nutrient export. My main filtration will be on the other side of the sump with my filter sock, skimmer and phosban reactor... and of course the sand/ LR in the DT.

I will definitely have it as a slower flow, but I have read that if you feed it with "clean" water it kind of defeats the purpose. My undertsnading is that the fuge acts as a natural filtration system by exporting phosphates through the chaeto and nitrites/ nitrates through the DSB.

I plan on putting the rock into the tank tonight and partially filling it with water, since my RODI water container is only 35 gallons. I'll fill up the rest tomorrow.

what the heck...I'm not talking about clean water from a faucet or Ro/DI unit..?.. FROM the RETURN..as in clean of solids..of course it has the elements still in it.
    good luck..8)

I've got what you are saying, but won't my phosban reactor be scrubbing the phosphates out of the water before it gets to the fuge?

I guess I am thinking of the two compartments as separate filtration systems... the filter sock, skimmer, and reactor are all "man-made" items to filter while the fuge is the more natural way of filtration. I just figured it would be better to run them in parallel rather than circuit if you get what I mean.

Am I thinking about it the wrong way? Would it be better to have it all run through a circuit?
