Hey everyone, I hope all is well. Long time no talk. I setup my tank about 6 months ago. Shes running great, post cycle via a TON of filter material, sand, water and live rock from my old tank.

All has been great for the last few months and everything is still doing well acception of the algae in my tank. I do normal water changes, levels are all normal.. I have a phos reactor and uv light running. I just setup a fuge with 4 inch deep sand bed (this should probably be deeper). I have green Gracillaria in the fuge. The fuge is running an opposite light schedule to the main tank. Any pointers?

    See pics..
This covers about 30 percent of the rock in my tank

This covers my sand in the main tank. It comes back in 1 ~ 2 days.

Its a greenish brown algae thats growing on the sand. I know its red slime on the rocks - just trying to figure out what else I can do to get rid of it..?.

    +1 with Luna on that

second picture Cyno bacteria or red slime
whats your water movement like? often its the sand bed that gets this as water movement is normally less at this level for fear of blowing sand about

1st picture it looks like very purple coralline to me is it hard to scrape off? if so its not a bad thing on the rock, but a royal pain when its on the glass, or any equipment

Thanks for the pointer.. I will up my water flow in the tank.. I have a few power heads I can move down lower to spice it up a bit :) The red stuff is def red slime as I can see it "aspirating" (little bubles accumulating.)

    Any pointers/tips on my setup?

Give the fuge some time, that cyano and other yummy stuff will end up in there and will stay until your nutrients are used up. It will take some time for that DSB in the fuge to start doing anything and ofcourse flow will work as well. Another thing I would suggest is gettin in touch with John at Reef Cleaners and getting yourself a crew. Cant beat his prices and products. Good Luck

discrete audio - your set up
reverse lighting, macro algae , DSB - sounds good to me

cyno is a frequent visitor Im afraid even in the best run , mature tanks with optimum flow
but by directing a bit more water movement down there, whilst not blowing your sand bed about , should help reduce the frequency and the extent of its presence

Siphon out what you can. You should be able to get almost all of it off of the rocks. You can also siphon the sand too. Just replace it later on, I do it all the time.

    What is your source water?
