YAY! Finally found a UK supplier for ATI products whoop!

Now - I currently use Aqua Medic bulbs in this order

    Actinic 420nm
    Reef White 14K
    Ocean White 10K
    Actinic 420nm

Im now considering swapping one of the Actinics for the ATI Pro Colour 720nm. My question is, is it worth it? And what can i expect from it?

Thanks for your input (in advance)

I didnt know that actinics came in a 720nm. Does that mean that its a darker blue color?

They say that they recommend that you use the bullb in a combination of three other regular bulbs. I guess what they mean is 2 daylights, 1 blue actinic and the other that 720nm. If you have this set up, try it.

720nm!! Thats just crazy. I would love to see the color on this bulb. The nm spectrum just got way wider. whats dr frag got to say about these?

I haven't really heard all that much positives with them... They are a RED lamp, which will help bring out the reds and oranges. It should being lowering kelvins have some HUGE PAR output but I believe when Grim tested the lamp it didn't put out nearly as much PAR as people thought. And yes the red can be overwhelming and adding it to a 4 lamp setup could still be somewhat overpowering, at least thats what I have heard from Grim.
If I remember correctly it is somewhat expensive also.

What color are you looking for Phoenix? Why not use some of ATIs Blue+ and an Aquablue and say a GE 6000k lamp? That would be a strong output yet blue... Too bad GE doesn't make its 3000k lamp anymore, that would be a very cheap alternative to the 720nm.

Well im not a big fan of the blue look, but at the same time i dont like my corals to be dull in colour. I was just hoping it wont make my tank more blue but maybe encourage the colours to become more affluent.

Just one more question Frag, if this is in the RED spectrum, would it encourage algae growth?

I have said it once and will say it again, spectrum alone does not spur algae growth. NUTRIENTS spur algae growth, you can have a blue tank with wicked algae or a yellow tank that is clean its all on how you keep the tank. Frag farmer's lamp of choice is the Iwasaki 6500k MH lamp.

If you do not want a blue look do a 1:1 ratio of white to blue, it will have a slight blue hint with 4 lamps. More of a crisp white, at least in my eyes. If you want to add the Pro color I would just recommend 2 Blue+ or else the tank could look a little wacky.
Go with the AB, 2 Blue+ and the PC and mix them up a bit, try the PC in the center first though.

    B+
    PC
    B+
AB or switch the B+ and Aquablue around... See how that works.
