Looking for a little guidance on the Atlantic blue tang. I have one on hold but wanted to get some info from people here who have or had an Atlantic blue tang.

I have a 180 gallon - the blue tang is a juvenile about the size of a silver dollar. Still yellow.

I presently have a naso (4 yrs old - about 10 inches long) yellow tang 5+ years old, and a hippo tang 9 months old about 5 inches long.

    they are in a 6ft long 180.

What might I expect if I were to add the blue tang? they are different species of tang (similar to ptb and white cheek)

Are they aggressive? will the yellow tang get along with the blue tang?

I dont have one, but i've been researching them for a few months.

Unfortunately people don't seem to keep these very often. I have heard they are fragile like a PBT when first introduced but very hardy once established. Since you don't already have an Acanthurus tang, it might be ok, but your hippo and he could certainly have some aggression issues.

I have also heard from a couple people is they can get more aggressive with age, but then heard just the opposite as well. I figure there is alot that has to do with personality, and if he is pacing back and forth in the tank at the LFS aggressively, I would be wary.

I hope that you do get the blue tang and can let me know how it goes. I'm saving for a gem so I dont know I want to establish a blue first.

Thank you - the blue tang is not pacing at lfs - eating everything and nice and fat (for a tang)

i have also read people with all kinds of good and bad points - but seems like all tangs get the same good and bad stuff.

I have a ABT that I have had for 4-5 months now. I also got it very small (all yellow). It has been a great addition to the tank. Personality wise it does great with all other fish. It does not fight with any of them, but with that being said it did need stand up for itself when it was first added to the tank as my bi-color angel was picking on it, but that only lasted a day or so. I would highly recommend putting it in a quarantine tank if you have one as mine did get ick right away. I watched it at the LFS for 3 weeks with no issues, but once it was put in my tank the ick appeared. Luckily the ick did not spread and the tang was able to fight the ick off. If I were you I would say go for it! Especially if you buy it young as a juvenile and are able to watch it transform into that great blue color!
