I just bought a JBJ for $72 in a group buy from BRS through the WRS. Do you live or travel near Milwaukee? You don't want to be cheap on important equipment. Look at it as an important investment in your hobby.

a timer is not needed on the jbj since it turns the pump off no matter what the sensor is reading ( if its stuck on) after 3 minutes. it has its own built in timer

Thanks for all the info--I will probably go with the JBL and try to find that Aqualifter pump. I definitely need one that doesn't pump much as my return section of my sump is small.
    Thanks!

I noticed the Tom's Aqualifter is an external pump. How does it get the water from the bucket to the sump? Does it need two pieces of tubing then?

Thanks! I found the JBJ unit online for $75 w/free shipping. Also picked up the Aqualifter. When I go to the pet store next I'll get some of the better airline tubing. Then all I need is 5 gallon bucket and RO water!

my timer powers a wall wart (power supply) one side is hooked to a float switch the other side goes to the 12v solenoid valve that is connected directly to the rodi. It turns on for 5 mins a day.

The JBJ is great. Has the built in safe guard that turns the pump off after its been on for too long. It only fails in the off position. The pump plugs dirrectly into the JBJ. I use a tiny Rio pump for mine. Ive also seen people use Tom's aqua lifter
