ATO idea

I'm sure this has probably already been though of and tried but...

I took a gallon water jug filled with water and sat it just above my fuge, poked a hole in the lid, ran one end of an air line into the jug and the other end hanging over my fuge with an air line valve on that end. Sucked on the line to get the siphon started and turned the valve down to a steady drip. With the air line valve you can adjust it from a fast stream all the way to a slow drip every minute or two if you needed to.

This seems to work good for my little 20G since I only lose about a gallon every few days. I've had it going for about 4 days now and it's keeping my water lever perfect after adjusting the flow a little bit. I'm thinking about making something larger scale for my 75G I'm building and placing it on a shelf or something inside the stand that I can easily take out and refill with fresh water when needed. Maybe a container that holds 5 gallons or so...

Any reason why this might not work on something bigger?

I have had the same thing on a 5.5gal, 20H, and my 2.5 pico I have now.. Only difference is I use a flow regulator from IV tubing like you get medicine through.. One of the perks of being a nurse I guess... I think it would work on a larger scale as long as the holding tank was larg enough... Cheap and simple works for me..

 

lol i was thanking about using the same thing off of an IV from work. lol i actually brought one home from work the other day. great minds thank alike.
