After all this time I've decided to implement an ATO to my tank. Manual top-off has gotten old too.

I have no sump so hopefully I can get good advise on some ATO possibilities to accommodate my set-up. TIA

I have a similar set up. I use a JBJ ATO, and have a maxijet 600 (probably could have even gone with less) that pumps water straight into the Display Tank from a 2.5 gallon tank in the stand

I'm using the CPR HOB Aquafuge and just 2 days ago set up the JBJ ATO with a Tom Aquatics lifter pump. Here it is! Excuse the mess, I hadn't cleaned up before shooting this video. Just to think I was nervous about setting this up, I'm laughing at myself now!! It was so easy! I chose the aqua lifter pump because I didn't want a rush of water being added. This setup is nice an slow and steady :)

So you have the float switch set-up directly in the DT? If so, just wondering how flow near the water surface would affect it.

Nanareefer- thanks for the vid but I don't have a HOB fuge to mount the float switch.

autotopoff.com sells a sumpless topoff fit. i would get there kit it comes prewired so all you do is plug it in and add a pump. i also would recomend the aqualifter pump for your aplication

I used a Tunze Osmolator when my tank didn't have a sump.

Also Profilux makes a water level sensor that can be mounted outside the tank (it sees through the glass, so you have to keep the glass clean), which would work pretty well for a sumpless tank.

Yes, I have it in my DT. My flow doesn't seem to affect it. When I do water changes, I fill it via my ATO, so I think it tops off high enough that the "low points" in the flow doesn't make it add water unless it needs it.

The biggest issue: the snail guards aren't great. DON'T have too much water in your reservoir... because if a snail makes it get stuck on then it'll run til it's either out of water or you stop it (there is also a built in timer to turn it off... but I've never messed with it).

I'm also using the jbj ato and love it. Im about to dip the in-sump float switch in vinegar for the first time in 1 year to clear any debris.
