Actually it would. 12 million years ago it was a lot closer to us. See the universe is growing and spreading apart ...With that theory 12 millon years ago we would have been alot closer to the light. Just in today's "time" the source of the light is 12 million light years away...

No, those objects are 12 billion light years away. That is their actual distance from us. You are basically looking back in time 12 billion years at an object that is 12 billion light years away from us. What is it doing now? Don't know, we would have to wait another 12 billion years to find out. If the universe is 14 billion years old, the light from those objects would still be 10 billion LY away from us. Hence the horizon problem. Those objects that far out in space would have had to travel faster than the speed of light (which is not possible) to attain a distance where they could emit light that took 12 billion years to hit us.

EDIT: The objects WERE 12 billion light years away from us. 12 billion years ago. When the light was emitted. Now they are farther out.

I have. I don't buy it. Something just doesn't seem right with it. It seems like a bandaid approach to problem solving. Kind of like Einstein's creation of the cosmological constant back in the day.

It is unbounded, faster than the speed of light growth. Mathmatically, I don't think it works. You would get infinities in the equations.

Great, another thing to chew on. Hehehe.

Have you read up on String Theory yet?

I know I love this stuff...

Once the extra dimensions are measurable, and put into the equation, I do not think much our math will be the norm anymore...Just my opinion (you know what they say about opinions ;D)

We need to get into the speed of light thoery as well. Bending time, etc...

Ain't that the truth. Opinions are varied on this subject are they not?!;D Some are talking about other macro-dimensions now. I really have to get back into my reading on the subject. There is a book called Warped Passages by Lisa Randall. If you have not picked that one up.....do so. It's not like reading Brian Greene though. Just warning you. Really thick with information and sometimes you can get bogged down. I had to read several sections over (and over) again just to gain what I considered a basic comprehension.

No, The Elegent Universe was the first book I read, then it's sequel (Brian Greene), then I read took a little detour and read About Time and Flatland. Back to ST, I picked up Warped Passages and I am currently moving through that (I am toward the end). I also read Parallel Universes (which was OK, not great, kind of simplistic). Warped Passages and Elegent Universe are my favorites.

Isn't this is what is causing the debate know about the speed of light possibly not being constant? Didn't google it yet but remeber hearing thoeries of this.
