Well..... MY black and white clownfish decided that they would host my 2 large green hairy mushrooms (4+ in each) at night. The past 2 mornings when I turned the tank lights on, the mushrooms have closed up with the clown fish inside!!!!!!!! The clown fish acts like it is no big deal and pokes his head out of the top....... then goes right back into the now closed mushroom (looks like a hot air balloon). Do I need to be worried about my clowns?

    Thanks!

get a picture........would be cool to see!

I have heard of large mushrooms like elephant ear mushrooms eating fish, but I would think yours would be perfectly fine unless they are not healthy!

heh, you oughta see my clarke and my 22 inch carpet anemone- the clarke just says hello in the morning- pokes his head out of this massive death machine- it is really cute.

no worries - clowns know what they are doing I have some shrooms like yours too- green/purple metalic that are huge- over 6 inches, about 12 of them, and my clowns do the same thing- it's normal- weird, but normal.

wait till you see your shroom's split- your in for a new suprize. btw, shrooms are part of the anemone family- FYI.

get used to a new and different world my fellow reefer.

I believe I have one doing that right now..... its about 2 inches across and has developed two mouths, it also looks like its footing is stretching really wide.

A 4" GHM shouldn't be an issue. Some of the big elephant ear mushroom corals have been know to eat a clown or two. They get gigantic though.

Well..... my clown fish fell victim to one of the mushrooms this morning. So in conclusion: A large GHM can eat a healthy clownfish.

    Big bummer,

I find this strange, the mushroom must be very strong to hold a healthy clownfish, I do not think the sting would do it, especially if the clown has been residing in the mushroom.

    Strange, sorry.

So, sorry to hear that. A GHM is related to an Elephant Ear, so I guess you never know. Wouldn't have thought 4" was big enough though.
