I have a FreeAgent Seagate hard drive. Trying to back up my system but having some confusion.

After I connect the usb, it says new hardware found and then nothing happens. I can hear the driver running and I do not believe I need the drivers. Seems like I should get some type of pop up.

I know the hard drive is functioning fine, what I am missing.

Lastly I did go to their site, still confused.

    :-/

Open windows explorer highlight what you want copied, right click, click copy or move, click on the removable hard drive, right click, click paste.

    That should work.

also, what format is the hard-drive?? is it brand new? or is it previously formatted for the same PC? if new, format it for the computer you want to use it on and then do the click and drag

You should be aware, that only backs up files and not the system. So its a good way to save music, videos, etc but it's not like you can load a working copy of windows from it.

    Ok

It is a new drive, but the boyfriend tried it on his PC and I am attempting to use it on my lap top. I am wondering if it formated to his hmmmm.

Totally clueless on my part. BF is unavailable so and he set the laptop up so it is not running windows explorer properly. So much for his computer savy skills. uggggg.

    Thank you for the assistence

Luckly I know that little, but not pass that.
Trying to back-up my documents, pics and music as it sounds like my laptop fan is acting up.
