    Hi
I recently bought a gorgeous little auriga butterfly, he's been in quarantine for a week and has been eating right out of my hand. His first dorsal spine is kinda redish and inflamed it looks like, it has gotten a lot better though. I was planning on moving him to my main tank a lite before the 2 week quarantine mark. The main tank is probably better for healing than the quarantine tank. Does this sound like an okay plan? He hasn't showed any signs of ich (and boy was he stressed at first- it would've for sure showed up then).

So basically I'm wondering if he would be better off staying in qt for a while longer, or if its better to move him to the big tank. Thanks!

This is what it looks like. I guess it's not as much inflamed, but pink red [IMG]

Should I just leave it alone, he gets stressed out when I add any type of medication...I even tried mela/pimafix and he could hardly breathe

As long as the tank is appropriately sized for the fish, there are places for it to hide/sleep, and it is cycled (no detectable ammonia or nitrite), then leave it in the QT. I actually do a minimum of 4 weeks, but usually 6. The one time I broke that rule (3 weeks) the new fish infected my entire DT with Ich. Not saying it will happen to you, but just throwing it out there.

No, not one spot during the 3 weeks. I wouldn't have moved him if I had of course.

That's rough...I'll wait a little while longer. It can't hurt. I learned my lesson once, I'm not gonna deal with ich again.

    Thanks guys!

Indeed. Glad that you are using a QT in the first place. Too many in this hobby don't IMO. Just keep a close eye on it. It is a beautiful fish!

I forgot to add- do you think the injury on his dorsal fin will heal without meds? Just clean water?

I am no expert on fish injuries, so hopefully someone more experienced can chime in. My guess is that yes, it will heal on its own given an unstressed environment, and plenty of quality food :)
