It's getting extreme out there. You might recall from over the summer the 3reef 'Man of the Year' Martin Strel whom swam the entire Amazon to raise awareness for water pollution. Well Martin look out... here comes Richard Pain - Richard wants to swim from Japan to the United States! If that were not enough, he wants to swim right through the Pacific Garbage Patch to raise awareness for ocean pollution! Gotta love 'em. Good luck! :)

Global warning... Richard Pain, 45, a Sydney film-maker and environmentalist, is planning to swim 9000 kilometres across the Pacific Ocean. Photo: Nick Moir

And lets throw 22 year old Katie Spotz up here too... she is going to ROW across the Atlantic by herself to raise awareness for people without clean water.

Great for awareness and all, but here's 3 reasons it might not work.

    1. Oceanic Whitetip Shark, Carcharhinus Longimanus. This shark WILL try to eat him if it see's him.
    2. Shortfin Mako Shark, Isurus Oxyrinchus
    3. Tiger Shark, Galeocerdo uvier

    Good Luck Bro.....

You can die in 75 degree water if you stay in it long enough.
Not many people can swim the English channel.

Curious how he'll do this but if he can fight off hypothermia somehow you could get in an ocean current and just float around the world.

"Mr Pain is planning to swim inside a six-metre-long bottle made from thousands of used water bottles, which will act as a shark cage and a reminder of the plastic waste that is threatening the Pacific Ocean."

At least he planned for this sort of thing... I don't know how well a plastic shark cage is going to work, but best of luck to him.
