Time again to give my Bali, Indonesia spiel....

First of all, way, way cheaper then going to Australia (both in airfare and living expenses)...Second, way way more exotic and crammed packed full of wonderful things to see...

    Great weather...~82 degrees year around.

Great Swimming, snorkeling diving. Warm, crystal clear water. Reefs to die for.

Lots of really cool places to stay. You can't buy a terrific meal anywhere on island for more then ~$3.00. Your wife will go nuts over the shopping and prices.

People and culture are unique over any where else on planet when it comes to friendliness and hospitality...

Trust me, have been to both several times...

"Hidden Paradise" Amed, Bali (One of my best Bali "discoveries") ... Opposite side of Island from large noisy population centers...cool bus ride to get to. (little villages, monkey jungles, etc...)

Yep...no flies...(that alone makes Bali a better destination over Aus. 8))

PS: Bali Disc. Tours lists booking reservation at this particular hotel as $35/night...book yourself by phone, will only be $25 night. (at least they will for me...just say refered by OmarD ("omardy")...they know me very well)

    Very cool.

    Go for it.

PSS...never, never crowded. More often then not I have been about only guest...have stayed there maybe 10X --- like having a staff of about 25 servants all to yourself and to take care of just you! ;)

"...Hidden Paradise is a cosy garden retreat where the breath of the sea adds a lively tang to the perfume of magnolia, jasmine and frangipani blooms. Its sixteen very private, shaded and air-conditioned bungalows are set in a garden of exotic color.

Open air dining experiences, with oriental dishes, French or Italian and a wide choice from the bar. Stretch out on the beach with only the sea and the sky for company. Enjoy a pampering massage in a beachside pavilion at the end of the day.

Located 100 km from Ngurah Rai International Airport or 3 hours by car and 15 km from Liberty, the American Shipwreck, one of the best shipwreck dive site..."

Great snorkeling about 25 feet from room door.

Indonisia/ Bali, Thiland and the rest are also great cheap 3rd world destinations for sure,
I dont particuly like these countrys for that reason but once you get to you hotel it very nice.
If you want a western holiday, ie OZ their is a load of great places, Check out Tourisum Queensland.

Yeah I know :) That's what I meant to say, that there are lots of places to stay that are close to Cairns that are even nicer :)

Now I've gone and deleted my post. FFS they shouldn't let people like me near technology :) Anyway, places like Bowen and 1770 are my favourites.

I agree with you about Bali and those other place. Great if you want to stay in a hotel or resort but you would want to stroll around the place these days, nor would you want to eat the food. A pity really, spolied it for ourselves I think :)

Indonesia sounds great Omard... if my wife would let me I would go by myself because she would never go to a 3rd world country... big scardy cat! I went to Riviera Maya in Mexico for my honeymoon last year and it was a blast... 8 nights for a total of 3 or 4 large, but we went on a lot of excursions. The snorkeling was great too... $25 to snorkel in the world's 2nd largest reef!
