Remeber its a caddy cts so it should have air bags which being that cold caused a hydro line to freeze up and POP!! you have a mess. Could be a Trunk lid strut like said above though.

Air Ride systems in all GM's run off air. (sorry, couldn't resist) Only time I've seen hydraulic lines outside of the engine bay (pwr str, etc) were for convertible top mechanisms, which he does not appear to have. What just peaked my curiosity is if that is the same stuff to the far right of the first picture near the trunk lid seal. If it is the same stuff, how'd it get all the way over there, without covering his what looks to be pcm?

edit: looked a little closer, did notice some of that gunk on the power distribution center (what I thought was a pcm)

almost looks like a corrosion resistant compound that is used on battery terminals. They went a little wild with it.

I'm sorry, it was really too easy to get ya with that one. ;D

Fluid from struts is usually a light to dark yellow in color. Similar to cooking oil. I dunno, aside from either battery juice, or lift support fluid, I'm kind of at a loss.

For now I cleaned it all up the best I could, and will monitor it from now on to see if it happens.

The original batter which has been replaced, was a vented battery ... so maybe thats where it came from.

Thanks for all the help and brainstorming ... worth bringing it into GM for further diagnostic. I'm still covered under bumper to bumper ... so I'll get them to look into it.
