    Hello all,
I am looking at the JBJ ATO unit.
Aquarium Maintenance & Plumbing: Auto Top Off Controller

I will get a small pump and a 5 gallon tank to seit next to the sump.
I cannot do a live feed from RO so this type will do.

Anyone have opinnions on this model ?
Anyone have a better one for not too much more $$.

    \Thanks

Why can't you feed it from the RO/DI unit with a float valve in your sump?

Placement of the RO faucet doesn't prohibit it. The tank is placed in an area that I cannot go from the basement up through to the tank.

OK, So i took another look. If I move the tank to the opposite wall, I would be able to run a hose to the tank from underneath. On top of that, the support structure ends up being stronger as well. More wood and closer to the support beam.

That said, Any help on equipment, links for info, or any advice on setting it up ?

    \Thanks

I bought the float valve from the doctors foster website. I'm happy with it. I think it is the corallife brand.

I had a bulkhead in my sump that I just drilled through to run the hose from the RO unit in the bathroom, through the wall.

You do no that a 5 gal gas can can be made into a ATO via a siphon and no pump required. Simple build and very very reliable made many of them for buddies in Apt and such cost about 4.00 over the cost of the plastic gas can.

I did not know that. I am also not related to MacGyver..
Without a float sensor, and a pump, I can't see how the siphon kicks in ?

Achient aquarium secret my little grasshopper :) Its easy to do hell I'm suprised someone like Bornnerman or Randy hommey or a Carlson and last but not least the Drain guy Duso have not jumped on them and hung their name on them also like everything thing else they try to claim . I'll put you a how to together later today , Hell after sending out several hundred to guys over the last 30 to 40 yrs I'd be surprised there is nothing around the net on them now ? Like the Coil denitrater I sent a local residient DYI guru on a old aquarium board now has a name all over them .. LOL

    Well, found this on Google,
DIY Water-Top Off System Project - From About Saltwater Aquariums

Seemes close but this has pump, timer , ect.

I have decided to move the tank to the opposite wall in the room it's in. This will allow me to feed from the new RO/DI unit so I may be scrapping the 5 gallon idea. The direct feed sounds maintenance free where as the 5 gallons would be weekly. Not that I'm lazy you C, just trying to maximize time available.

So what I will need is a good system for monitoring level in sump, and turn on the RO unit to fill. There is SumpMate from Reef Relief, and Tunze at Dr's.

I am still curious how the above can be accomplished simply with Siphon and no pump.
