I'm not getting any answers on other forums so i'll try here. I've been using a mag 12 as an auto top off pump to pump water from my basement up to the first floor and through my kalk reactor for about 2 months now and it's starting to seize up on me for some reason. I should mention it's the pond version so I'm not sure if it's different then the marine version, but it's weird looking because the impeller has two magnets stacked on top of each other instead of just one big one.

Can anyone recommend a pump that is more reliable and still have enough power to pump water up seven feet and through my kalk reactor which needs at least 300gph, thanks.

I know this, pumps that aren't rated marine lack some of the proper gaskets to stand up to salt.

Have you tried pulling the pump out and running it in a 50/50 water vinegar solution? This type of maintenance can prolong their lives and may help you in the interim until you get the right pump.

Yeah if it wasn't for the kalk reactor i definitely would.

    Just a thought....

Are you 100% positive there are two magnets, instead of one that broke in half? I have never seen one with two... not saying that it isn't that way on the pond version, I just don't know. I know that when mine started freezing up, it was a cracked magnet.

If it's one magnet it's the longest one I've seen. I take a pic and try to post it

Here is the pic of the magnet. Let me know if it's cracked in half or if that split is there on purpose. uploadfromtaptalk1354863601702.jpg

If its cracked, that looks like a perfect 50/50 split.
Why not get the marine prop replacement? It looks just like the one on my mag drive 9.5 but with two magnets instead of the 1. By the way, I also have the pond version because it had 9 feet of cable instead of the shorter cable on the other version.... It came with 1 long magnet in the prop... So I'm a little confused about this one too.

You might want to try a Eheim 1262 much higher quality pump and is roughly the same output with head pressure

Yeah weird right? I did order a new impeller but it is the same pond one. I don't think a marine impeller would fit because i remember having a mag 12 a while back and the impeller was about half that size and much thicker.
I have my mag 7 running on it for now so more then likely i will just use the mag 12 in my pond since the pump in there now getting old and rusty anyway. I think the magnet is too long to be stopped and started all the time but i read everywhere that the pond version is exactly the same with a longer cord, but i guess it's not.

I will look into that because my mag 7 doesn't provide enough head pressure to spin the strirrer on the kalk reactor so it will have to be replaced soon.
