pgreef: That would be my other option but I think if it spills its going inside the tank anyways since its over the sump, so might as well do it inside the sump. Thanks for suggestion

ermano: I already have a asov, thanks

I use a float as back up if the top off water going thru the Kalk can't keep up or is in the mixing stage. Been using it for 2 year and not had any problems with it.

This is ironic. I added a sock filled with carbon last night in my HOB skimmer box. I left the sock hanging over the top which I've done before. This time the socked wicked up water and it was dripping it onto the carpet behind the tank. I noticed it because the water level in my RO reservoir was much lower than it should be after only one night. I've considered purchasing another RO unit for a completely automated topoff unit for the convinence. Doing so would make it harder to notice this disaster in the making and you can end up dumping your entire tank onto the floor eventually if a leak develops someplace in your sump system. Using a reservoir limits the spill to what is in the reservoir.

Now, I need to get a water alarm to put behind the tank. Expect the unexpected.

ive been using this for many many years, the ro/di unit is in the basement to the reef relief which is under the tank. the line from the reef relief goes to the kalwasser then into the sump. its fail safe.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. Tommorow Ill let you guys know how I set it up. I think the way I am doing it is fail safe since it has the solenoid controlled by the float switch. If the power goes out the solenoid automatically closes.

Well here is a little update on what I decided to do. I eliminated the float valve altogether and will be using two float switches connected to solenoids. The float switch on the bottom is the one that will control the water level, and the one on top will be a shutoff point just in case the bottom one fails.

I am going to try some sort of delay relay so that the rodi is not turning on and off constantly when the float switch goes down.

Made with some scrap acrylic. First time working with acrylic.
