As my funds are going to new lighting right now, I don't have much in reserve for an auto topoff.

Does the double switch sump mount from autotopoff.com (with an aqualifter pump) sound like it would work until I can get a better system?

I don't know anything about that ato. Personally, I would continue to manually top off until I could save up enough to buy the ato I want the first time. No point wasting money on one to get you till you can afford another.

Keep it simple and inexpensive. Mount one of these in your sump. Have an RO reservoir above your sump and gravity feed. Works great.

I have been using that exact one for over 1.5 years. It is a solid performer. I don't ever see the need to go to a more expensive one.

I am using mine with the solenoid hooked directly up to my RO/DI.

Not sure about that system but I got this one, DIY ATO. It's very DIY, you have to cut some wires and build the mounting bracket but nothing too difficult. I got the Aqualifter pump to go with it. It's been working great for my system and I haven't had any issues yet.

I agree with PGreef.... keep it simple ... I don't think an autotopff is necessary. I've never had one....

It is not necessary at all, depending on your situation.

I am constantly making several day trips. I have no one to watch the tank. I NEED an ATO.

I actually think an ATO is vital since it keeps the salinity constant. I do think it should be kept simple and should be fed from a reservoir instead of being hooked up directly to an RO/DI. I've read too many stories of tanks crashing due to ATO solenoid failures and the tanks being turned into freshwater tanks while the room gets flooded. If a small reservoir is used and the valve fails you'll limit the flood and the salinity drop.

I really appreciate all the suggestions. You all are very helpful!

An auto topoff is essential for me. I am very busy and don't always get my sump topped of in a timely manner.
