Has anyone tried an AutoAqua Smart ATO. At face it seems like a good product but just wondering how much fluxuation this thing has and the size of the pump.
Also is $150 a good price for an ATO system or should I be looking elsewhere?

Not sure on that specific ato but I always wonder why people spend more than 40 bucks on a ato. Mines a single switch fed by a aqualifter. It hasn't failed me in 3 years.

To prevent either the system not activating, or worse, staying on causing overflows and possible hypo salinity situations. Two of my tanks use Reef Angels for ATOs. You set the max run time for the pump and can set how often it runs. Plus you can add high or low floats for back ups.

That being said, I use just single floats for 3 other tanks. The only issue I have had is when a snail stuck on the float causing the pump to drain all of the RO/DI water. Luckily I only had a gallon or two in there so it did not overflow or cause any issues. I will be adding a snail guard shortly.

Relying on single float switches is dangerous. Where's AZ ? 54321.......B-)

Im not to worried about it. Even if it gets stuck it will only throw 4 gallons in my tank. No biggie.

If you only have a "small" amount of top off water that could pump, then it is really not that risky. If you have one that auto fills (like I do with my two tanks that use a Reef Angel), then having a "real" ATO is a must IMO.

Ive dealt with gravity fed, JBJ ato and Tunze Osmolators.... I recently just ditched my JBJ because one of the switches went out. Its an easy fix, but I decided to go for another Osmolator. Simple can work, but I dont have as much time for my saltwater tank as I want right now... So quality ATO is a must. I havent heard any reviews of them but the unit you are talking about looks quality.
