In my new 235g build. I would like to set up ATS. This subject seems very confusing to me... Where does the water come from? Do you set up a separate jug or something?

OHHHHH. I would look into a gravity fed auto top off. Very reliable.

I would recommend a Tunze osmolator , Very reliable and precise IMO

I use the Spectrapure UPLC-II . Similar to the Tunze but it includes a peristaltic pump and multiple levels of safety and redundancy. Its as simple as pushing a button to program the system and you are up and running. You can read the owners manual here:

    ULTRA PRECISE LEVEL CONTROLLER

    Its also on sale here:

I have a 23 gallon Rubbermaid recycling can in my garage 35 feet away from my display and ran a 1/4" line from there to the sump where the UPLC resides.
My RO/DI fills the 23 gallon Rubbermaid using float switches and a solenoid valve set so it must drop 11 gallons before it starts which eliminates TDS creep issues.

Me too. I love that unit. It's very reliable. For a tank that size, I would not consider a gravity fed system.

AZ's comment, below, implies the Tunze toes not have multiple levels of safety and redundancy - but it does. It also implies the tunze does not come with a pump, but it does.

I don't see any point in the pump being peristaltic for ATO purposes. Also, AFAIK, the spectrapure relies on float sensors (somethign I'm not a fan of) whereas the Tunze uses a laser - that is less prone to being tripped by a snail or crud buildup.

No the UPLC uses an electronic optical sensor just like the Tunze does. It has a single float switch as a high-high back up.

The advantage of the peristaltic pump is it is another level of safety, you can adjust it in 10% increments so even if the sensor failed it could be set up and fine tuned where the flow could not possibly over flow the system. It also is good for up to 45 psi pressure rated or can pull a vacuum so the pump can be mounted remotely and suck water up as well as be mounted below and push water up like normal pumps do. I have mine set up so it pulls from the garage 35 feet away and its never failed me in 4 years of use.

I don't believe the Tunze has those features but maybe you can elaborate?
