    It should work as long as it's airtight.

    IMO an easier and safer way would be to set up a gravity fed ATO with a float valve.

    Good point. I have one, but it's attached a plastic bucket. I didn't think about drilling the sump :(. I suppose you could use a bracket to attach it. I know I have seen a few members on here with float valve ATO's. I don't think they were drilled into the sump.
