Hello all I am looking at setting up my first 29 gallon aquarium and have purchased a wp-25 powerhead based upon several recommendations from people on this site. I am wondering what kind of sand would be good so that I may avoid sandstorms. I realize that this is a powerful powerhead and that I will need to run it on a low setting. I am thinking of getting live sand. Any recommendations? Amazon would be my ideal website to purchase from due to competitive pricing and low shipping cost.

I'm personally not a fan of fine sand exactly for that reason. it also depends on what you want to keep.

i strongly suggest you don't buy the entirety of your sand bed live, its a waste of money. all you need is a cup full from an established tank and that will be more than enough to seed your new sand.

here is the size i use, my gobys seem to be able to deal with it with ease.

if i remember correctly its 3 parts aragonite and one part crushed coral, in fact I'm sure its that…. much time and beers have passed since i decided on my sand bed so please excuse my faulty memory.

I like the special grade reef floor sand. It's about the consistency of that picture posted.

the wp25 in that size tank is going to be pretty strong. I have one on my 24x24x20 tank and have to keep it at its lowest setting. It wasnt causeing a storm but was displaceing my sand (granted is a little to fine) It is a great pump though. The setting that seemed to work for me is W1 S3
