I love it!! Display fuges are tough to pull off. I like his!

It's so close to being perfect.. He should have the fuge sitting higher than the display tank.

DT overflows to sump. Sump filtration happens, return to fuge and fuge overflows into DT, no loss of pods then!

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. lol.

I posted it because I was looking for mantis tanks to show my dad and sister; this looks like a very nice example. They think mantis shrimp are evil and bad. ::) After seeing it, my sister said "The refugium looks cool, but I still don't want you to get a mantis. They are mean and can break glass."

I want one...I'll just have to wait until I move out.

Tell them to look up Dr. Roy. He's the leading expert on Mantis shrimp worldwide. He has probably kept a minimum of 2500 and I think I remember someone quoting 5000 + in his history. Anyhow, he's kept a freaking ton of these, 40 at a time for research. And has only had a mantis strike the glass a handful of times and only twice did it lead to a crack. I like those statistics.

They are perfectly capable of breaking the glass. They just have no reason to do it. They have no incentive to strike the glass so they don't do it. The real risk is when they dig down.. but it's easy to put a piece of acrylic down under the sand bed.

It is even easier to not keep a mantis that is big enough to break glass in an aquarium that is too small. I read some where Dr Roy's broken tanks were from large peacocks and other capable species in 10 gal tanks.
