Hey man it happens. Just be happy nothing is too bad yet. And remember, always mix up your stuff away from the tank. Measure up your dose somewhere else, and walk it over. It could be much worse. Someone here not too long ago spilt a test solution in their tank and DID nuke it very quickly. That why it's always good practice just to do the stuff away from the tank.

Question, if the tank is "snowing calcium". Doesn't that pretty much mean that the water has so much of it that it can not disolve it? Kinda like a glass of water. If you keep on adding sugar to it, the water gets to the point it can not longer disolve any more sugar. Also, wouldn't the "snowing calcium" just settle to the bottom of the tank?

Yes. Science calls this supersaturation. However, it's not just Calcium that is falling out of solution, carbonates and bi-carbonates are falling out of solution too.

If he wouldn't have spilled so much in at once, he would see snowflakes develop like in a snow globe and fall to the ground. However, he spilled so much in, he didn't have a snowstorm.....he had a blizzard.

Supersaturation that's the word I was looking for. I knew all those times in chemisty without sleeping would pay off some day. lol... That's the number one reason I mix into a water sample, then pour into my tank.. You just never know.. I hope his live stock makes it, his live sand will be junk though..

I always mix away from the tank, even when I dose vodka... (Mostly cause I'm taking a drink or two.. or three...) ...

When I saw this post, my heart started running. I had the same issue with my 8g biocube but mine was not with a cat.. Mine was my wife pulling a prank on me telling me she was preggo. (Deer in the headlights) ...

While you get your tank back to normal, pay extra attention to your fish and such.

Let us know how it turns out. We are pulling for ya!

Fritts I called in sick today from work....Family emergency. So far all have survived the night. I changed out probably 90 percent of the water none of my sand or rock has gotten dry at all, all i can do now is check the parameters often and pray it doesnt cycle too bad. It is no longer cloudy and the ph is back down to 8.4. I have also setup a dresser next to my tank for all testing and doseing purposes so this never happens again. I also have a big reminder so i dont ever do this again. Boy what a stressful night!! Thanks to all who gave advice K+
