My tank is about 5 weeks old.. 55 Gal.
I used RO Water, Instant Ocean Salt mix, Base Sand out of an Old Tank, cleaned VERY well,
15 lb. Live Sand on top. 5 raw 'shell on' shrimp in a nylon..
A 6 lb. live rock, Alot of purple on it, It's coral.
And around 40+ lbs of dry coral.. Still waiting to buy fish, etc..

I found 3 baby feather Duster growing on the live rock last night..
How to care for..? I want to keep them alive..

    Would marine snow be good..

Does my tank have enough going on, for me not to worry about extra food..??
The 5 shrimp are almost gone..
I know my tank has cycled, even tho, I've not got a test kit yet..

I also have 3 very little wild fish. 4 Hermit crabs, and a Big snail.
I do feed them each day, pellets I got at the LFS. Smaller then a BB.
I also crumbel up a few as I add them to the tank..

The feather dusters are doing real good, The biggest is around 1/4 inch...
Stays open most of the time, Will close real fast, if the snail gets near it..

This is my first SaltWater Tank, just learning..

    Thanks for any info, Larry

I would definitly get a test kit, at least the basics, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and ph. You don't 'know for sure' unless you test your water, although it sounds like it might have if the snails and crabs are doing well. If you want to keep the feathers dusters, I would do as you are doing and some filter feeder food. but watch out for ammonia spikes and high nitrates which inverts are sensitive to because you only have 6lbs of lr. you will probably want to get more as you advance

You can tell if you have 'too much going on' by testing your water and seeing how high nitrates, ammonia, nitrites are

    Thanks

    Thanks, I'll do that..

I did find out, they are feather dusters.. But want get much bigger..
And they are good for the tank..
I know all my rock will turn into live rock, if given time...
It just means I have to wait longer .. But things are looking good, and I will start testing.. I was just giving it 6 to 8 weeks for it to cycle first..
    Thanks for the info, Larry
