Hello All, I found a young naso tang today at the pet store. They have had the little guy for about 3 weeks and looks very healthly. I have been wanting a Naso and have looked at this fish for weeks. It doesn't have the mask on his face yet so I wasn't aware that it was a Naso. Tonight I found a pic of a young Naso and it looked just like the one at the pet store. Do all Naso's appear mostly grey until they get older and when does the mask form on their face? This fish is about 3.5 inches so, when does the mask form?
    Thanks

Not sure. My naso tank I had when he was just about a little over 2 inches, and he already had his mask. Im sure its all dependant on the fish itself with its morph

Hi, Do you know if the Naso Tang's mask formation could have something to do with the origin of the fish? There are several locations that this fish comes from so do you think this could affect the mask formation?
    Thanks

It very well could be. Or it could just be that fish in itself. Some fish are known to adapt or change color on mood or water conditions etc.

I know there are naso tangs and there are blonde naso tangs. When they get bigger they grow lyertails. It could be a gender thing also. I know males are more striking than females. I'm just guessing but that naso may be a female. Those fish get real big. I saw one at Big Al's last year that was creating it's own waves.;D All kidding aside they are the most docile for a tang and need lots of greens. They might not get a good invite if you have a yellow or purple tang. Nori on a regular basis is a good idea. They get more beautiful as they age.

    Naso Tang?

Hey Guys, I bought the young naso tang yesterday and had a question. At the pet store he was kind of pale and now that I've had him for about 1.5 days he is very dark grey is this normal? He is very active and gets along with everyone else in the tank and eats very well. Just wondering if the color change is normal.
    Thanks

Most tangs can change colors to show their "emotions". Usually, the darker colors are a sign of "happiness". I use these terms very lightly of course.

Can you post a pic of your new friend?

Here is a pic of the little guy he is dark grey but seems to be doing fine. Please let me know if the color is normal for a young naso.
    Thanks
