How do you calculate how many you will need and how high above tank they would need to be placed.

I believe boostled recommends 16x16x16 coverage, but they had one lighting a solana about 8" off the surface. It really depends on the optics, the bigger the number the greater the spread. For example, 40º would be more of a spotlight, while 60º would work better for you.

Ok I believe I had talked to the guy at Rapid a few weeks ago if his name is John about the PAR series bulbs and they were out of stock at that time. I'd love to see some pictures of how people have these lights over there tanks because I'm having a hard time picturing them above a tank where they have a clean look. How does the quality of the lighting itself compare to say a T5 and a MH?

Go to BoostLED, they have pictures of one over a solana. The quality depends on the spectrum, tanks with LEDs look more dramatic because of the shadows, but they still have sparkle lines like an MH. Corals under LED seem to fluoresce better and bring out colors you've never seen before. Is this tank 24" or 36"?

Tank I'm setting up is a 30x12x12, 20L so I'm thinking would need to center one bulb at 15" and then go out 8-9 inches on both sides of center for outer lights that way wouldn't get alot of spillout at ends.

Here is a picture of my tank. I recently purchased 4 of the Par30 Led kits from boost led. I opted for the kit with the adjustable clamp/housing because when it comes to DIY, I don't =-). I really like the lighting and the reading on the refractometer are great! I hope this helps

Do they clamp to the edge of tank or the stand behind it?
