Hello all. The name's Clif, and I've been around aquaria ever since I was probalby in high school. I volunteered for the National Aquarium (the one in DC, not Baltimore) before its management changed hands, then worked with the Smithsonian's Nat'l Museum of Natural History in their Marine Ecosystems section; doing research on coral propagation, algae turf scrubbers, nudibranchs, and water chemistry.

While at Penn State University, I was involved in the creation and development of the Penn State Aquarium, where much captive reef research is still done to this day. In college, I also had my own 75 gallon reef tank - but after graduation, I moved away and haven't kept up with sw or aquaria as a whole since then.

Recently, I randomly got a part time job at an aquarium store in northern VA and am starting to get back into the swing of things.

So with that being said, hi there! Hope to chat with you all at some point in time.

    Yours,
    Clif

Wow.. great jobs! I'm sure I am not the only one that will pick your brain. I'd love to hear your thoughts on algae scrubbers - I've written about them here from time to time.

Welcome to 3reef! THanks for joining! 8)

    Welcome to 3reef! Nice resume!
Hope all goes well for you in getting involved in the saltwater hobby again. You will have to keep us posted as to size tank and livestock, more importantly what type of tank you plan on keeping(fowlr or full blown reef) and equipment you will be using.

Thanks! Glad to be here! I've browsed around at other reef-like forum websites and this ones seems the busiest and the best.

I'll be going up to PA to visit the folks next weekend and will be bringing down one or two aquaria setups from when I used to live there. I'm not sure of whether I'll setup the 40 or the 75. Either way, I think I may start out slow with just some LR and and some clowns or something.

I'm sure the fever will catch up and I'll have to get back into raising corals again!

    The Update...

So I have finally had the opportunity to go back home and bring down my 75 gal. I am in the process of setting it up as a FOWLR tank and have decided that it would be kind of neat to have a website for this new display.

So... I'm working on building the website; but there will be all sorts of great info on filtration, lighting, creatures, a log book, and of course the web-cam.

Right now, the only thing that's quasi-working is actually the web-cam; so check it out periodically! You should also soon be able to see a gallery of photos from setting up the tank to closeups of the inhabitants (once I get them).

The URL (temporarily) is The Clifton Aquarium: Fish-Cam.

Let me know any suggestions for the site / thoughts / comments!

    Much appreciated!

    Cheers,
    ~ Clifton
