Back from Vacation and My Chaeto is dead

    What should I test for? First thing I notice when looking at the tank is that the skimmer is loaded with black gunk, it never does this. So then I see my chaeto in the next chamber is looking small and light in color. I just tried to turn it over and it's mush.

    Any ideas?

    If it's dissolving, you need to take it out. All the nutrients it's locked up will be released back into your water column if that happens.

    But what would cause this, and I assume that buying new chaeto would also melt too.
