Last week somebody brought into Curts store a N. Wennerae. It was immediatly placed on hold for us ;D. So it came home on Saturday and placed it in Bobs old tank. Well the little guy was so little that we never got to see him. So last night, Curt stuck his hand in the tank and grabbed him and we placed him into his new tank (Guess what he still has all his fingers...though I wouldnt do it;D I was laughed at over my reluctance! )

I set up a new tank in the bedroom right next to the octopus tank! The mantis of course was very very angry and has burried himself in his den and has not come out so we still havent had much chance to see him, but hopefully he will grace us with his presence. I will snap pictures of him as soon as he does! I am interested to see how the octopus and the mantis react when they see each other in the next tank!

I am happy to be back in the mantis game, however it has made me miss Bob more (peacock)! She was so much more active and watched our every move, even on the first day I got her! I guess that is the difference between a 11 inch mantis and one that is under 1 inch!

Congrats, I think size definitely can have something to do with confidence.

    More proof that size matters.

Here are some pictures, I need to get some better pictures but she did grace us a little yesterday! The pictures are still a little grainy because the sand is still settling

and here is a picture of the octopus playing with its new ball! It is a little golf practice ball that it likes to stick its tentacles in

Mel- Your reluctance was warranted. I wouldn't grab any mantis with my bare hands. They may not have the strength or mass to break a finger bone, but they do have a barb on the end of their raptorial appendage, for catching soft prey (very much like a spearers), which I have seen cause some deep cuts. Also if you look closely at a dead mantis you will see they are covered in spines, which can also cause a cut.

I know Curt likes to say being scared of a 1" wennerae because Peacocks have a bad rep is like being scared of a kitten because lions have killed people, but even a kittens scratch can become infected.
