I have the opportunity to pick-up a slightly used (6 months) Deltec MCE600 skimmer for CAD$250, which will serve as a back-up unit to my Coralife 220. Or maybe I can use the Deltec as my main unit and put the CSS220 as a back-up.

    Is this a good buy?

I did some reading on past threads and it seems that Deltec makes excellent skimmers.

    Thanks.

    ps: tank is 120gal.

This is what J&L Sells them for MCE600
So I'd say you got a good deal

Why not just buy another superskimmer for 1/2 that price? Pet solutions has the 220 for $149 and the 125 for $115.

Living in Canada makes ordering on-line nearly impossible from USA companies because 99.9% of these american companies DO NOT SHIP OUTSIDE U.S.A.

So, if I'm lucky to find a company that DOES ship to the Great White North, there is customs/duties issues, transport fees, foreign exchange, blah blah blah.
Takes all the fun out of shopping plus I like to see what I'm buying to begin with.

Since I will be using it as HOB what attracted me to the Deltec is that the motor/pump is not in the aquarium. The only thing in the tank is a tube for the intake.

If it where me I'd just get a back up pump for the coralife unit other then that there is noting to go bad and the 225.00 one you are talking about will just be another thing to have to dust :) Unless you want it then hey knock your socks off ..I just keep a back up impeller and seal kist for my main pump that also drives the skimmer and everything else. But when I ran a power head type skimmer I just kept a new inpeller kit. 99% of the time thats all that goes bad and just hang it on a nail near the skimmer. Skimmer should be taken down and cleaned and checked twice a yr anyways.

Deltec makes some good stuff, I have been looking at one of these for my wish list: Deltec Protein skimmers because you are able to attach this: Automatic Deltec protein skimmers
I like it being automated so when I'm not home I don't have to call a tanksitter...;D It is on my wish list for now, too much other stuff I need that comes first to stuff I want...:-/
