What are your opinions on solid color backgrounds on your tanks? I hate seeing the cords from the lights just hangin behind my tank and I think a background would show my coraline growth better. Do you guys use them or no??

I painted my tank black on the back, before setting it up. You should look into just using some nice dark window tint. easy to put on, and if you ever want to sell the tank, it is easy to take off.

Luckily I had little chordage going on in the back of my cube so I didn't opt for a background. What I did was I ran my chords with square mounts and twisty ties on the top rim of my tank & then to go behind my overflow so you couldn't see them. Coralline quickly took over and now you can't see anything but purple back there :).

BTW I do like solid black backgrounds and the deeper blue ones if you do have lots of cords you can't hide.

I like backgrounds, but the less permanent, the better. I get sick of looking at one color for years. As suggested, you can use window tint, or as an alternative, get a thing piece of acrylic and paint that, they stick it to the back. Then it's really easy to change it out if you get sick of it. Just my .02...

I painted mine but if you dont feel like painting, get a large piece of cardboard or construction paper and tape it on the back, you can change it up every day if you really wanted to.

I have a double-sided background on my new setup. If I get tired of blue, I can flip it and make it black. Personally, I don't like seeing BARE WALL behind my tanks (Paneling and painted drywall are not natural reef settings). :D

I'm just leaving mine, I find salt water really wrecks backgrounds, but thats just my experience, I am going to grow green star polyps and coralline on the glass

The rolls of stuff look pretty bad after awhile. I paint all my backs black.

I used black background from the local pet store but i wish i had painted it blue instead, but oh well. I'd def go with a background though. Mine looks a ton better once I did.
