I bought a poewrcompact off ebay knowing it didnt function prefectly but it was definetly a deal!!

I took it to the LFS and the guy lent me a brand new one for free  while he tryed to fix mine... Well I go visit everyweek and he hasnt found a ballast like mine... he was going to just wire one up for me...

I have a Helios and I really liked it even though everyone tells me Helios sucks... He just gave me an All-Glass version (which by the way sucks!) It only came with daylight bulbs and i think its causing an algae problem...

So my ? is if anyone has ever seen a ballast like this one and where I can get it

    Thanks!!!!

We carried these at the store for a short time and had many problems with them and no longer carry them cause they were just way too unreliable. Almost all of the problems were with the ballast going out. Not sure how the wiring would go or if it can be done but if you were really wanting ot save the fixture I would see if you could wire up another brand ballast to it.

It is a helios hs-48220 ballast, which I have the same exact one and have had the unfortunate experience of having one of the ballast go on me already, due to the moron i got it from using 2 - 65 watt bulbs when the ballast was rated for 2- 55 watt bulbs on half the unit.. I am in the process of trying to locate a fix for it... will keep you informed if you are still interested... :)

Actually that should not have mattered and i doubt it was the cause of the ballast going bad. 65 watt and 55 watt power compact bulbs are basically interchangable. These ballasts just have very bad reliablity.

Any suggestions on a replacement ballast for the front half of my lights?? or even better a replacement ballast for the whole getup, I love the fixture with the legs, and would like to keep it if possible... and keep the same plugs if possible... I am going to try to find a replacement ballast for the inside of the case... looks pretty easy to replace and rewire if i can find the part... Any ideas???

I have never opened the Helios box but depending on the room we could get you a bare PFO or maybe a Hamilton ballast depending on if either would fit.

PS I just noticed you were from Amherst too, small world :)

hey guys i had a question that is kind of the same. my ballast went out on my fuge and i went to my LFS and asked for a 96w pc ballast to replace the bum one. i got home and looked a little closer, the ballast is for one 130w pc bulb. my question is should i even try to hook this ballast up to a 96w bulb? what could happen?
