So I get home today and find that one of my feather dusters has blown its top off and I can't find my goby. I figure he is in the back of the tank digging his stuff, right..... NOT... Normally he comes out when I feed them, and today when I fed no sign of him. Well, I found the little turkey. He had jumped out of my tank. I am so distrought. I did this whole saltwater tank because of him.
That is all I wanted, was a sand sifting goby. I even bought some of the grate and cut it to fit the back of my tank so he couldn't get out. Hmmm, think he out smarted me.............

Well, back to the drawing board. I will replace him sometime this weekend.

Thanks for listening. I just needed to vent

Sorry for your loss...DONT GIVE UP! We all have setbacks, it is how we learn. I am going through a rough time right now with my tank. There will be some days you stand back and say, Damn my tank is beautiful and everyone looks great. There will be others when you say. Wow I hope they make it through this...Hang in there!!!

Yup, time to update your sig, unless you get another diamond goby soon.
Do you think the reason for jumping was all those damsels?

I feel your pain. My diamond goby turned himself into a crispy fish stick last week. :(

So I am looking at a goby as my next fish. I have MH lights and an open top tank, no canopy. Any suggestions on how to keep these guys in their tank?

My first thought is to make a screen canopy that goes up over the lights. Under the lights would block too much... but it wouldn't look very good.

Next thought is to make a glass canopy with some kind of cooling fan...but how would I keep it from getting destroyed by salt creep?

Would a glass "rim" extending in 3-4" on all sides work? i.e. do they swim up the walls and out, or will they leap from the center of the tank?

I want to avoid posting this same story myself.

    Thanks

    -Doug

I am open to suggestions on keeping them in the tank too, because my glass top and the crate that I put on the back 1 1/2 inches sure didn't work.

oh, and yes I will be replacing him tomorrow, and no it wasn't the damsels. He actually liked them.
