I have flatworms fairly bad. I think they have somehow gotten into my bubble coral and my two frogspawns. they are also noticable on my mushrooms. I live on SSDI and took the last of my money for this month and ordered some flatworm exit. After theorder I got a letter from the vendor claiming that the exit was out of stock and I am on a list and should get my purchase late december or early january. The LFS around here is whee I got my flatworms from but they have never used the exit nor heard of it. they still sell out of the flatworm tank but my question isnt about the company it is How long will my corals live like this. I assume the flatworms kill corals.
Will they live until the stuff gets here or will my tank crash out again. they are also at times on my leathers and my candy canes. WHat do I do and how long do I have?
    thnx alot

are they the clear white ones with brown lines on them or are they the red ones?

With both kinds I have seen tanks survive just fine with no treatment at all for years.

Can you purchase from another online vendor?

I have seen tanks infested with these for months (not mine personally) until something was done about them. They can supposedly smother corals, but I'm not sure if they actually eat coral tissue.

You should probably try to get them out asap if they appear to be bothering your corals... there are more than a few online vendors that appear to have salifert FW exit...

I am on disability and that was the last of my money until december. And thats Christmas so thats a really bad time since there are kids in my life that expect stuff. So its a weird situation. If I buy more then I get more in the mail and it would be a wasted purchase and Im stuck with stuff I dont need. I do think the vendors could do better bussiness than putting someoe on a waiting list. IF YA GOT IT SELL IT IF YA DONT LET THE CONSUMER KNOW!!!!
Okayy I vented and feel better BUT I STILL HAVE FLATWORMS...thnx all for your input. 3reef has been ahuge help so far. The tank in question is well established and has been up for 2 years now...ya get itt lookin right then it goes bad lol...my luck.......

Most flatworms don't eat coral tissue not very encouraging i know. If you don't see any disappearing tissue they probably are the annoying ugly ones that will if too bad smother your coral and deprive them of light. They are usually a sign of over feeding but not always. I've had them at various times in the last ten years and have never used any chemicals to get rid of them. So i've probably always have a few. The 1 dollar solution is a time sucking exercise in patience. But you want cheap and i am cheap so i'll share. One ice cream pail cut a half dozen holes an inch or so in diameter. Fill it with filter floss from any fish store sipion the water out of your tank through the floss and they get trapped and you don't lose any water. Its easy, cheap but time consuming. I've mostly used a 1/4 inch air line so i can get indivdual coral and it isn't hard on the corals tissue. Good luck.

Use a turkey baster and gently squirt water through the corals, that will dislodge the flatworms from the corals for a bit, unfortunately it also pushes them to other areas of the tank but if your really infested there are already there and hidden in nooks and cranies of the rock.

That will keep them from killing anything till you receive the flatworm exit.
Warning: I have dosed my tank twice and it has not completely eliminated them. I dosed the first time as directed on the box, and the second time at double strength. there is a procedure on the box for determining drops per gallon needed if this happens.... I would do that first before dosing the tank so hopefully 1 shot is all you need.

    good luck :jester:
