Ok so my heat in my home went out for a week and long story short one fish got sick. Then the rest. (they started loosing their slime coating) My question is. Am I terrible that I sorta nudged a dying, struggling fish (no way was going to survive the night) towards my rather large and hungry LTA? Nothing should go to waste right? Why rot in the tank overnight and then get flushed in the morning. I'm not heartless but just saw it as a practical opportunity. Any thoughts? Comments? Verbal lashings?

If I was in your situation I would of euthanized it with clove oil but I dont look down on what you did, I would do the same if I didnt have clove oil on hand.

Verbal lashing? LOL I say that if the fish was for sure going to die then it is not a problem. otherwise, where would it go? The toilet or garbage?

    It depends:

I would say you fail as a fish keeper but succeed as a anemone keeper. A Fish keeper would have decapitated the fish to end its misery(then fed it) or tried to save it. Being digested alive is probably a nightmare, hopefully the stinging killed it not just paralyzed it before it was enveloped.

lol thanks guys for your candid responses. I've had three fish for months. Add one tang ok for a few weeks then a little temp change with the sudden drop this winter. (cold oddly cold) Not helped with broker heater for five days. Little tank heater could only do so much. So started the sickness. I don't dose my tank as I'm against it, especially with the corals in there. So it's true. If you have a reef tank and fish get sick....good luck to them. I did have a heavy heart mind you! But felt better knowing my nem was full!

I don't see a problem with what you did, it's like nature, weaker fish will die and feed other creatures.

if you were sure it was going to die, it might as well go out helping the tank.

I might have held out a little hope that the guy would last the night, but eventually I'd feed the anenome as well.

Yea the one thing I'm good at is telling when a fish is on his last ... fin. Sadly. He had lost his slime coating and wasn't swimming very well. Now looking back the fish must have had some disease or infection. Something killed it right? (the temp dropped for a week) I now wonder if it was smart due to possibly passing along what ever it was to the lta. He seems fine though...
