bad hydrometer reading!!!!!!

    ok for the past 2 days i have noticed my coraline alge getting lighter......even my br that was turning was getting lighter.........i kept checking my cal,ka sal. i finally took a sample to my lfs....sal.was 1.030!!!!!!my hydrometer wasreading 1.023 cal was a little elev.but nothing major......just did a 25% water change and anew hydrometer reads 1.020......this had to happen within the past couple of days...did a water change a week ago.....any sugestions to anything else i should do...taking another sample back tomorow:shame:

    scrap the hydrometer and get a refractometer. way easier to use. and way more precise. to many variables for hydrometers to work consistantly..

    Until you get a new one... Flushing out the hydrometer in warm water to get rid of any salt crystals that could have formed on the pointer. Also just make sure no microbubbles are on the pointer when you read it. Not saying that your hydrometer isn't probably bad, but it could help until you get a refractometer.

    thats what my lfs used isnt that quite a chunck of change for one????

    theres another thread right now that showing 25 for one on ebay. great price. i paid 65 at my lfs.
