My 8 year old dog had a strange episode over the weekend involving collapsing in the yard for an unknown reason. We brought her to the vet, and she was hypothermic and had a high white blood cell count. They thought she had an infection and had been left out overnight (which we thought was possible because with 3 families at our house it was mayhem) so they put her on antibiotics and sent her home. She was doing better, but it happened again today. We brought her to the emergency clinic to have a mammogram because they had detected some sort of thing in her abdomen at the clinic the first time and she was suppose to have one friday at her regular clinic, but with this going on, we got her one sooner at the emergency place. As it turns out, she has a cantaloupe sized malignant mass of some some sort of vascular cancer on her spleen. They are going to remove it today or tomorrow along with her spleen, but that will still only give her around 6 more months, and with her breed we were expecting around 6 more years.

Its a sad day the LCP household today.

Thanks guys. She's been out of surgery for a few hours and will probably come home thursday or friday. There's a tiny tiny chance that it was benign, but the veterinarian said that they see it all the time and its usually malignant. She also said, however, that she will live 3-6 months of happy good time. She won't be in any pain until another tumor starts to crop up and then we'll have to say goodbye. Its already in her vascular system, so there's almost no chance that it isn't metastitized somewhere, we just don't know where. Unfortunately its just not something that she'll recover from long term.

    Thanks again for your wishes

man, sorry to hear about the dog! What kind of dog is she? My brother/sister in law had a golden that had that also, but there was no way to do surgery it had gotten so big. They were told that her breed (golden) are prone to that!

Well again, sorry for it...spoil her and love her for the time you have with her!
