well my fuge f ing overflowed while i was at work i lost 3 good men and possibly 2 anenome i will see here shortly. well i supposally will be talking to eshopps tommoro about what they are gonna do about this but the plastic nut that holds the bulkhead to the overflow somehow cracked or was cracked from begining it was dripping onto my surge protector which the shorted my breaker on my outlet then of course siphoned at least half the water out of my display tank all i did was hand tighten the nut so i know my hand couldn't crack it. In other words im very pissed off but am wondering if you guys have any ideas on how to put a siphon break in somewhere because i know they wont cover anything and prolly send me a new overflow i shoulda just went and drilled my dam tank owell everything works out this way for me.

Just curious, as to nothing in this post is really making any sense.
How does a fuge overflowing cause the loss of livestock?
Also, how did the display tank drain half its capacity? The overflows have a skimmer box, the tank should not have been able to drain more than a half an inch if set up properly? How did it drip on the surge protector? Were you not running a proper drip loop?

maybe your return shouldnt go that far into the tank, once the power goes out it will start siphoning due to gravity. You should probably shorten the return tubing so its not deep into the tank? Eshopps definitely wont replace anything, esp your livestock, theyll send you a new overflow at the most. Good luck.

+1. I'm not trying to be rude, so please don't take it that way, but it sounds like something was set up wrong. Did you test the system by cutting the power?
The eshopps design will keep it from flooding the fuge even when power is lost, and wont lose siphon when it resumes (much better than the CPR systems). It sounds like you are running your return line well to deep into the tank, and its causing a reverse siphon.

i see what you guys are saying my return from pump is prolly half way down tank i thought it would cause less noise having it deeper. and the overflow was dripping on tank because the plastic nut on the bulkhead was cracked and the surge protector happened to be underneath the overflow. so my return should only be 1 inch in the display tank water? and the skimmer box should only be half inch underwater (i belive it was) i just have to deep of a return i guess

however far your return is, is how far it will reverse siphon on you (which is no good for your pump). So in theory you want it higher than your overflow intake tube so you don't run into more problems like you've already had

Your new best friend. Available in different diameters for all applications.

As for return height... Closer to the top the better. Usually aimed towards the top so you get good water surface agitation.

You don't necessarily have to run the return shallow. You can keep it deep, but drill a hole in the return line about 1/2" under the water's surface to create a siphon break.

Do you have much LR in the tank, you'll want to keep your circulaion going. Is your heater in the dt or in the fuge, you'll also have to make sure you move your heater to the dt if its not already there.

One other word of advice, on your return line to prevent it siphoning back into your fuge you can put a small pin hole(i used a finish nail) just below your normal water line so when the power goes out or catastrophe strikes once the water goes below that point air is let into the return line and the siphon is broken. This has saved my life many times.
