I was trying to figure out how high I need to make my baffles in my refugium. I am doing the refuge on one side and intake on the other side with the return in the middle. I am using a 40 gallon breeder tank as my DT. The refugium will be a 20 gallon long tank that measures 30"L x 12 1/2"W x 12"T. My DT is 36"L x 18"W x 17 1/2"T. Help me out please. Thanks guys

Intake side as high as the recommended depth for your skimmer, fuge side to an inch or two below the rim.

I was told that if the power went out that I will have 3 gallons of water come back into the refuge. I also don't know what the water depth is on my skimmer.

I have a 20 long on my 92. I went with 11"'s on the refugium side, a center return and 9"'s on the skim side. You can always raise the skimmer to the necessary height. Search the manufacturer of the skimmer for a suggested depth.

I like to design my fuges with the precept of having the water relatively level in all three chambers.

This will help to cut down on microbubbles.

If your return from the skimmer section is higher than the fuge - you will have a "waterfall" effect vs. a "river" effect - introducing unwanted microbubbles into your DT.

I am using 3 baffles on the skimmer/ intake side, so the water will go over, under and over again, to cut back on micro bubbles. The refuge side will be just 1 baffle since the water will be moving so slowly

The three baffle set-up is correct. First baffle set to height you want your skimmer section to be, second baffle water goes under, third baffle set to height you want your pump section to be.

    Hope this helps.
