I just purchased 2 bangaii cardinals 4 days ago and they havent eaten more than just a bite in this time period. I have fed mysis shrimp and RODS food with a garlic additive, but they seem completely uninterested as the food floats by them. IS there anything i can do to get them to eat??? will they possibly only feed at night??

Ya the stuff with the garlic additive is not the same as soaking in garlic. Soaking gives it a real strong garlic smell, which is what will get the fishes attention.

Also you have only had them for 4 days, they still may need some time to settle in.

When I started with mine I had to use LIVE brine shrimp to get them interested in eating.

    Hope this helps,

I am sorry as I am about to come off like mom, lecturing....

People STOP BUYING WILD CAUGHT BANGAII's!!!! The mortality rate is staggering and downright pathetic... Of the millions of millions that are exported maybe, MAYBE 10% reach your tanks.... They are easily tank raised but no one is trying to in force.. I am glad Laura at ORA is not giving up the fight to get them to be aquaculterd there in Florida.

Don't listen to the people in Indonesia that claim their local economies would tank without their collection... There is maybe 200 or so collectors... They get like a penny a piece for these fish. Most die in transit. Then the next batch dies in wholesalers tanks, then the next wave die in dealers like my tanks as they rarely eat and even if they do they don't last long.
They are found in a VERY limited geographical local... Since they are mouth brooders they reproduce slowly and in small quanities and since the larvae has no pelagic lifespan the young are never dispersed to other reefs, hence the limited locale....

PLEASE PLEASE Don't let our hobby get a blacker eye from continuing to support the collection of this fish... I haven't ordered one in years and have no intention to until it is tank raised... I am doing my part please all do yours!!!!

Oh, since you have it, try PE Mysis... Thats the only thing I have seen them eat.

If it was tank raised it would be eating just about anything just like other tank raised fish... I can feed our TR clowns and dottybacks out of my hand... Also no one breeds them in any quantity... I guess it was a hunch... ;)

liveaquaria and other places have them and they specifically say tank raised....

I want a pair of these in my big tank. But I will not buy wild caught ones for the reason Doc Frag states above. Most times the wild caught ones will just starve in our tanks.

See Joe, now that I have my radiant wrasse, I will agree with most things you say;)

True but if you look at liveaquaria.com livestock it says they have ALOT of stuff, 80 different tangs... 50 angels and everything...Then when you go to order it says Email me when available... I haven't seen in much frequency or duration that they have had TR cardinals... Could be wrong though, don't go on DFS site ever....

I am only aware of a few small time operations that raised them and usually they are sold at swaps or similar venues... No one at this time as the ability to supply a big time vendor like DFS or whoever....
