Just a quick update on the algae. The RO container situation was fixed last Sunday, and already the last of the algae is showing signs of weakening. Some of the bubble algae is turning clear, and most of the green algae has red cyano growing on it. This was probably a problem since day one. On the bright side, I've gone through upgrades and better maintenance along the way. Came down to the basics, good husbandry.

    Thanks, Vinny!;)

Haven't found another cause yet. Thought maybe it was from the two pumps in the Brute, or the tubing, but since the 10 gallon tank has been in use, the TDS has been zero. In any case, I'm not using the Brute for RO storage anymore. May use a spare 125 that I have laying around.

With the algae issue, I kept thinking that I was missing something global and basic, but very important. I realized that I had NEVER tested the water in the Brute, just coming out of the RO unit. Picked up a handheld TDS meter, and what do you know? Just over 100 in the Brute. ~30 was coming from the RO unit, that was my fault for not changing the filters sooner, but that was a short term issue. 78 after rinsing and refilling with zero TDS water. Hmmm. Filled the glass aquarium, put the same two pumps in, and zero TDS.

I'm thinking it has to be buildup in the Brute, not the Brute leaching. Continually putting 30 TDS water into the Brute might have lead it the contamination of its walls. I'm willing to bet it could be cleaned and be useful again.

That's a very good point. I'm not going to claim that the Brute itself is the problem because that's not likely the case. I had been considering switching to a bigger glass aquarium anyway because I like the idea of making a larger quantity of water so the RO operates more efficiently, rather than on-off every day.

Haha. No, the Brute is for storing RO water. This June will be two years and one wc. * I have a 100 gallon Rubbermaid for mixing saltwater. I thought when I got more into SPS I would need to start wc's again, but so far so good.

*I am in no way promoting this activity to others. :p

The last of the algae in the tank is growing in the lower light areas of the tanks. I took some pictures so I can track it's progress.
